Billy Twitchell’s devotion and dedication to his job and the University of Maine is well recognized. Billy started working at the University of Maine after high school before enlisting in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he retired to the University as a Kitchen Porter. His loyalty and hard work were recognized and rewarded with several promotions. Billy has taken advantage of opportunities to take classes to improve his work knowledge and skills.
During the worst spring flooding in memory, Billy made Herculean efforts to travel to campus when others could not physically reach the campus, to make sure our students were fed.
With 35 years on campus, Billy has learned the art of being patient and comfortable with his surroundings. He never appears to feel stress or pressure; whether he is feeding 100 people or 2000, he will get it all done. As a cook, Billy is able to produce whatever is required making it all look easy.
Billy looks out for his fellow kitchen workers. If he is aware that someone is not feeling well, or has an extremely difficult situation in their life, Billy will quietly pull a manager aside and give the word that someone may need help. He is pleasant to be around and is always happy as he goes about his daily duties. Billy is a family man and his family is his number one priority. Billy is very much a team player and loves what he does!
Congratulations, Billy, on your 35 years of outstanding service to the University of Maine!
