Susan York
Administrative Assistant I
Public Safety
For 5 years the Purchasing Department had an “essential employee” who was Susan York. Then she moved to Public Safety and has been “essential” there for at least 30 years.
Soon after her transfer, Sue became an expert on the budget statements and ‘snapshots’. She could spot “green-bar paper” from fifty yards away, and could tell if it was a Public Safety report, regardless of how old it was! She also wore out at least five IBM Selectric print balls as she filled out forms and typed letters for former Chief Reynolds.
Sue is greatly admired for her tenacity and ability to weather the technology changes that have occurred to make her job ‘easier’. First came the change to computer terminals that connected to the main frame at UNET. Then came desk top computers that connected to the campus and the rest of the world. Of course, change marches on and Sue became an expert in the People Soft time entry and approvals, followed by the People Soft Financials and Position Management systems. Knowing Sue, she will be ready to become an expert in whatever system is coming next. She is a genuine ‘can do’ person.
She has also provided training to the staff in Public Safety about how to work with the Enterprise Applications and the Human Resources time entry, review and approval process, so that the supervisors now actually review and approve the entries their staff make. She also provides detailed documentation of the Public Safety budget so that it is clear how much has been spent for which purpose. There were also many students who worked for Sue.
Sue, thank you very, very much for all of the hard work and many contributions that you have made to the Department Budget Review Process so that it remains on track, along with everything else that you do.
