1. Comparison of results from SEM and XRF analyses of the Hudson Museum
emerald (HM601) with published analyses of emeralds and emerald-bearing
shales. HM601 has more elements in common with emeralds from a Russian source
in the Urals than from any other source. However, many elements present
in HM601 are not reported for Russian emeralds. If emerald-bearing shales
are also considered, then the emerald shares many elements with Muzo, Colombia,
including barium, zinc, rubidium and titanium.
