 Over
one million visitors from Maine and around the world have crossed the Hudson
Museum's threshold to witness “the wonder and splendor of the human
experience” showcased in temporary and permanent exhibits, celebrated
by special events and discussed in lectures by such distinguished scholars
as Richard Leakey, Jane Goodall and Thor Heyerdahl. Through guided tours
and gallery programs, thousands of Maine school children have an unparalleled
opportunity to explore and understand the depth and breadth of the Earth's
cultural diversity.
Since the Hudson Museum's gala opening in 1986, the museum profession
has redefined standards for collections care, accessibility and
service to the visitor. At present, the Hudson Museum's home in
the Maine Center for the Arts falls short of current preservation
standards. To ensure continued access to the collections and service
to our audience, plans are in motion to upgrade exhibition spaces
and help is needed in the form of private and corporate contributions
to underwrite associated costs.

“The
Hudson Museum has brought cultural opportunities to the people of
Central and Eastern Maine unparalleled north of Boston, and plays
a unique educational role in the state.”
- Dorothy Schwartz,
Executive Director, Maine Humanities Council

core of the Hudson Museum's original collection is pictured here,
in the mid-1960s, as a classroom display created by the Museum's
founding director, Richard G. Emerick. Today,
the Hudson Museum curates over 8,000 objects. For more information
