IEI Processing Fee and IEI Course Fees are non-refundable. All fees are subject to change. All international students and dependents in the U.S. are required to show proof of insurance that meets the minimal requirements of the University of Maine's International Student Medical Insurance Plan.

*IEI Course Fees: This is the amount owed for each 7-8 week core program session of full-time study needed by students entering the USA on an F-1 visa for intensive language instruction. Upon the student's arrival at IEI, the IEI Course Fee amount is due in the form of a check in US$ made payable to the "University of Maine." Part-time study at the IEI costs $550.00 per course for each 7-8 week session. Minimum part-time enrollment is two courses. The cost for each 4-week summer session course is $275.00--again with a two-course minimum for part-time study.

**UMaine Unified Fee: This UMaine fee is paid by all admitted students. It covers fixed costs for educational services not directly linked to tuition. Examples of these costs are services provided by the Library and Memorial Union. Because the unified fee is based on the total number of hours a student studies at the IEI within one complete semester or summer, this fee can be as much as $1,474.00 (for a total of 16 or more credit hour equivalents in one 16-week semester or one 8-week summer). The figure given above is an estimate of the expected semester fee for a full-time IEI student averaged over two half-semester sessions.

***UMaine Activity Fee ($45) & Communications Fee ($15): These are charged only during the Fall and Spring semesters. Only full time students are charged the Communications Fee.

****All international students and dependents in the U.S. must show proof of insurance that meets the minimal requirements of the University of Maine's International Student Medical Insurance Plan. If you provide proof of adequate medical insurance coverage, you can avoid this expense.

@ Approximate amount based on the highest UMaine fees that might apply to a full-time IEI-only student. Actual subtotal for language study may be somewhat less or more than this amount.

@@ Approximate amount assuming that the student does not have qualifying medical insurance and is seeking accommodation in campus housing. Off campus accommodation costs vary.
