Who might be affected?

The compromised servers carried sensitive data from the UMaine Counseling Center covering the time period Aug. 8, 2002-June 21, 2010.

Any UMaine student who accessed counseling center services during that time frame is potentially affected by this breach. Compromised data include names and social security numbers, and investigators believe the criminal motivation for this attack is identity theft.

UMaine is sending letters by mail to the 4,585 individuals in the data bases, to provide information about this situation and resources the university is making available to assist potential victims. Those letters will go in the mail in early July.
