Director since 1995 of both the OIP and international undergraduate admissions, Karen Boucias has over 20 years’ experience in higher education in Kentucky, Florida and Maine. She is the recipient of a FULBRIGHT grant to Germany, and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the American University of Bulgaria. An alumna of the University of Maine, she holds a graduate degree from the University of Kentucky.

Ace has been the Study Abroad Advisor since fall of 2005. Originally from the Philippines, Ace immigrated to the United States in 1995 and has been living in Maine since then. He received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Maine. His
professional
background includes college admissions, new student programs, Greek Life and campus activities and events.

Sarah has been advising students and scholars on immigration issues and cultural transition since September, 2003. Her background is in advocacy, immigration and legal services and she has had a life long love of travel and international affairs. She is a graduate of the University of Vermont and in 1991 she studied at the University of Lancaster in the UK. In 1998 while teaching ESL, she had the opportunity to travel throughout Korea and visit both China and Japan.

Lois moved to Maine from Florida in October of 2000 and has worked in the OIP since February of 2003. She handles administrative and financial matters and assists students with their bills and scholarships. As the NSE Coordinator she assists incoming students from all over the country with the transition to UMaine and advises UMaine students on their placements across the US and Canada. |

Susan joined the staff in 2001. She works with UMaine students going overseas as well as short-term visiting students from UMaine's exchange partner schools, assisting the Study Abroad Advisor with prior approval, pre-departure orientation, transfer credit, and other aspects of the program. Susan is active with the American Association of University Women and does volunteer work for Maine Public Broadcasting and other community agencies.

Valerie joined the staff in 2005. She is responsible for international undergraduate admissions applications as well as receptionist duties.
