ESL Programs
The Intensive English Institute (IEI) was established in 1987 and is part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Maine. The Intensive English program runs year-round and offers classes in Oral Communication Skills, Writing, Reading and Vocabulary and Accurate Listening. The IEI also offers an optional TOEFL workshop and a Conversation Partner Program.
IEI students are able to take advantage of the services offered to regular UMaine students such as the health center, library and computer clusters, sports and recreational facilites, on campus dormitory facilities, etc. During the regular academic year students are encouraged to participate in the many clubs and activities that are open to all UMaine students. Maine offers year-round natural beauty and a perfect environment for the outdoor enthusiast. The IEI organizes weekly activites year-round to take advantage of the possibilities of Maine, 
including the rich artistic and cultural heritage.
The IEI specializes in creating customized languge, pre-academic and professional programs for clients. We are also the primary center in Maine for training English language teachers and we are happy to deliver short intensive training programs for students or teachers either at the University of Maine or abroad.
