Outgoing Students - Information for Students Abroad

On This Page:

Verification of Enrollment

All students who are abroad are required to complete and submit a Verification of Enrollment Form to the Office of International Programs (fax: 207-581-2920) as soon as class registration is confirmed.  An administrator in the overseas office at the host institution or program must sign the Verification of Enrollment Form. Please be certain not to overlook this most important detail. Students who receive financial aid cannot access their money until the Verification of Enrollment is received by the University of Maine.

Transfer Credit for Work Done Abroad

Students usually receive academic credit for any courses that are taken abroad provided that they have filed the International Study Away Registration Form with the Office of International Programs prior to studying abroad. Students who change their courses upon arrival at the study abroad site should gain approval for the new courses with their academic advisor and College via email or fax. Courses earned abroad must be graded C- or better in order to transfer to the University of Maine. Though not a requirement, it is a good idea to retain course syllabi or reading lists in case this information is needed when assigning course equivalencies at UMaine.

Registering for Courses at UMaine While Abroad

Study abroad students may register from overseas for the semester they are returning to the University of Maine. To register for courses, students should review the class schedule on the Office of Student Records website at studentrecords.umaine.edu. The new class schedule is usually available around mid-March for the fall semester and early November for the spring semester. Students also will want to consult their academic advisor and College.

Students who are unable to access the web from their study abroad site may contact their College via email, fax or phone to inquire about registration and course availability. Detailed information including College contact information will be send to students via FirstClass prior to class registration period at UMaine.
