FDC: Plagiarism Prevention
What is Turnitin?
Turnitin is a web service that allows faculty to check student papers for evidence of plagiarism. Once a paper is submitted to turnitin, it is checked against a database that includes internet content, millions of published works, and every paper ever submitted to turnitin. About five minutes after the paper is submitted, an ‘originality report’ is generated. this report tells how much of the paper came from other sources, and includes links to where the information was originally found. This report is very useful for disciplining plagiarizing students, and the turnitin software acts as a powerful deterrent against student plagiarism.
