Checking Student Papers for Plagiarism

The University of Maine is terminating the use of the TurnItIn service at the end of September 2010: all current University TurnItIn accounts will become deactivated at that time. TurnItIn is an online plagiarism detection tool.

The replacement for this tool is SafeAssign which resides within the new Blackboard 9 (http://bb9.courses.maine.edu).

Important: Students will no longer be able to submit their own papers for seff-check.

SafeAssign allows instructors to confidentially and discreetly submit individual papers for analysis (called "DirectSubmit") as well as to create the assignments in Blackboard (called SafeAssignments) where all the student papers will be automatically analyzed for plagiarism and reports will be generated for the instructor.
