Repair your XP: Installing and running AVG Antivirus

To begin, please go to AVG's website and download AVG AntiSpyware. The website can be accessed by clicking here.

If prompted, choose to run the installer. Choose your preferred language and click "OK".

Click "Next"

Read the license agreement and click "I Agree".

Click "Next".

And once again, click "Next".

The setup process should now begin.

Check "Run AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5"

AVG Anti-Spyware should now open. Click on the "Update" button up near the top.

On the update page, click the "Start update" button. The updates can take several minutes to download depending on your Internet connection.

During some parts of the day, the update service may be slow or give an error message like the one pictured below. If you see the message, try again. It may take a few attempts before you are able to access the server.

Once the updates have downloaded, click the "Scanner" button up at the top and choose "Complete the System Scan". Please be aware that this process may take 30 minutes or more. On average, a scan will be complete within 15-20 minutes depending on the number of infections found.

The program should begin scanning your computer for viruses, spyware and other forms of malware.

Once the scan has finished, do not click on the "Apply All Actions" button yet! Instead, click on the "Recommended Action" text just about that. You should see a drop down box. Choose "Quarantine".

Now you may click the "Apply all actions" button. The program should automatically clean up any malicious software that is found.
