Repair your XP: Symantec CDInsert the Symantec Antivirus disk provided by the University of Maine. You should see the Symantec Antivirus autorun prompt appear on your screen. If it does not, please click on start, My Computer and then on your CD/DVD-ROM drive.
Click on "Install Symantec AntiVirus" in the autorun box.
Click on "Install Symantec AntiVirus Client".
Note: You do NOT need to install any other option listed on the CD.
The Symantec Antivirus shield should pop up. Click on next.
The "Complete" option should be selected by default. If it's not, please select it. Click on Next again.
The "Unmanaged" option should be selected by default. If it's not, please select it. Click on Next again.
The "Auto-Protect" and "Run LiveUpdate" options should be selected by default. If they're not, please select them. Please note that you will need an active Internet connection to update the virus definitions.
The installation should begin. This step may take several minutes.
Go ahead and click finish.
The LiveUpdate window should now open.
Click the "Next" button. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection, this step may take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes.
Click the "Finish" button.
The following screen should pop up as the updates are being installed. Don't be alarmed if the counter stops at 99% and does not appear to move for several minutes. This behavior is common.
Symantec AntiVirus has been successfully installed and updated on your computer. From now on, the program will automatically keep itself up to date when you connect to the Internet.
