Fall 2008 Internet2 Member Meeting Call for Participation

The Call for Participation for track sessions, side meetings, poster sessions, and demonstrations at the Fall 2008 Internet2 Member Meeting hosted by Louisiana State University and the Louisiana Optical Network Initiative (LONI) is now open. Submissions are due by 11 July.

Internet2 is also putting out a call for volunteers to work for Habitat for Humanity just before the Fall Member Meeting on Saturday, 11 October in New Orleans. Additional details and a sign up form is available online.

Strategic Planning Update

The Strategic Planning Execution Committee (SPEC) announces the release of the Board edition of the Internet2 Strategic Plan. This edition will be reviewed by the Board at their upcoming meeting on 8 July. The SPEC anticipates that the plan will be approved and they will then begin to develop the implementation plan. The SPEC will solicit community input on the implementation plan through a webinar to be scheduled at a date to be determined.

Register Now for Summer '08 Joint Techs Workshop

Registration is now open for the Summer '08 ESCC/Internet2 Joint Techs Workshop, being held in Lincoln, Nebraska 20-24 July. There are four focus areas for this meeting: The Coming Crisis in Routing and Networking, Campus Networking, WAN Issues, and Security.

Also be sure to register for the Internet2 Hands-on Workshops held in conjunction with Joint Techs, including Network Performance and DCN, among others. These workshops provide an opportunity to build, debug, and experiment with advanced technologies under the guidance of experts with extensive theoretical and operational experience. These workshops offer knowledge and resources that are unique to the Internet2 community.

Cheryl Fremon, Internet2 Chief Operations Officer Retires

Cheryl Fremon, Internet2's Chief Operations Officer, retired from Internet2 this month. Cheryl served Internet2 in several capacities since joining the staff in 2001, including as director of Internet2's End-To-End Performance Initiative project, executive director of Deployment and Infrastructure Delivery, and Chief Operations Officer. Before coming to Internet2, Cheryl served as Director of ITCommunications (ITCom), among other roles, at the University of Michigan. Throughout her nearly 40-year career she coached and mentored many teams of professionals and was deeply involved in the R&E networking community, including serving as past board member of CREN (Corporation for Research and Educational Networking).
