Final Week to Submit Nominations for 2009 Elections
The 21 November deadline for the Call for Nominations for the Internet2 Board of Trustees and the Internet2 Advisory Councils is only a week away. The Internet2 Board currently has 4 openings, and the Advisory Councils each have one opening per constituency. We are also seeking nominations for community representation on the Governance & Nominations Committee (GNC).
Once the call closes, the GNC will review nominations and develop a slate of candidates. The election will open on or about 1 February 2009. All elected members will begin their service in conjunction with the 2009 Spring Member Meeting. More information is available at http://www.internet2.edu/elections.
Register Now for Winter 2009 ESCC/Internet2 Joint Techs and 5 Hands-on Workshops
Texas A&M is host to the Winter 2009 Joint Techs along with five Internet2 Hands-On Workshops. Joint Techs, held 1-4 February in College Station, Texas, will focus on the end-to-end campus experience, with specific focal areas on campus challenges, end-to-end campus cooperation, the impending crisis in routing and networking, and convergence technologies.
On 31 January-1 February, immediately before Joint Techs, IPTV, DCN, and Network Performance Workshops will be offered. VoIP and IPv6 Workshops are offered directly following Joint Techs, on 4-6 February. Each workshop requires a separate registration, which can be accessed through the Joint Techs < href=https://services.internet2.edu/registration/emailSearch.jsp?appName=jt>registration page. More information on these and other events linked with the Winter 2009 Joint Techs can be found online.
SC08 Features Advances in DCN, Performance Technologies and Network Research
Internet2 and Internet2 members are participating in SC08, the annual High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis conference, taking place 15-21 November in Austin, Texas. Internet2 is collaborating with the SCinet committee, in partnership with LEARN and its members in Texas, to support the networking requirements of participants and exhibitors at SC08. Internet2 will provide connectivity to its IP and dynamic circuit networks. Additionally, Internet2, together with partners and members, will demonstrate latest advances in Dynamic Circuit Networking, Network Research Initiatives, and End-to-End Performance Technologies all of which are integral to the expansion of a global cyberinfrastructure needed to support major advances in education and scientific research.
Visit the Internet2 booth #943 on the SC08 exhibit floor. More information about Internet2's SC presence is available online.
Reminder to Register for Performance and Master Class Production Workshop
Registration is still open for a hands-on audio/video production workshop hosted by Internet2 and the New World Symphony. The workshop takes place on 12-14 January 2009 on the campus of the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida. The workshop will emphasize the equipment and staffing requirements needed for interactive performing arts education, multi-site performance events, and high quality netcasting over Internet2 advanced networks.
The 2009 workshop will include live demonstrations, an opportunity for hands-on experience with a range of equipment, and an in-depth look at relevant production values for successfully producing events. The workshop is designed for an audience of technologists responsible for setting up distance learning and remote interactive events in the performing arts. Administrators, deans, CIOs, network and audio engineers, and other hands-on technicians will also find this workshop useful and are encouraged to attend. Register now!
