Undergraduate Degree Options
  • The Business concentration allows further preparation for entrepreneurial career avenues within the field of horticulture. Students enrolled in this concentration have an opportunity to minor in Business Administration.
  • The Design concentration allows the opportunity for deeper exploration in areas of woody and herbaceous plant material, landscape design and construction, landscape management and production plus professional practice.
  • The Science concentration allows the opportunity for further exploration in areas of plant physiology, nutrition, taxonomy and propagation.
  • The Horticultural Therapy concentration allows the opportunity for exploration into the processes using gardening and horticultural activities to provide people with the social, psychological, physical and intellectual benefits by improving the physical health, health maintenance, mental health and social adjustments, recreational and leisure options available to individuals.

The Landscape Horticulture Program provides a background that will allow students to pursue graduate programs in landscape architecture, horticulture, horticultural therapy, turf management, Master of Business Administration or other related fields.

A Minor in Landscape Horticulture allows non-majors the opportunity to explore and develop a basic foundation in plant & horticulture sciences with options in areas such as, ornamental plants, turfgrass, design, and/or plant production.

A Minor in Landscape Horticulture Therapy allows non-majors the opportunity to explore and develop a basic foundation in the use of ornamental plants, vegetables and plant-related activities as tools in promoting healing and rehabilitation to people with special needs.

The Certificate in LANDSCAPE HORTICULTURE STUDIES (LHS) program at the University of Maine offers non-traditional students the opportunity to pursue the study of landscape horticulture through a series of core courses. Optional satellite certificate programs allow students to specialize in an area of their choice.
