Jordan Observatory
Type: Academic Buildings
Accessibility: Not Handicap Accessible

The Observatory operates throughout the year to bring astronomy and science entertainment to students and public audiences in the form of multimedia presentations and demonstrations for a variety of age groups. Installed in 1954 on the second floor of Wingate Hall, the Planetarium can produce a 20-foot model of the night sky and demonstrate natural phenomena for up to 45 visitors in a showing. Admission is $3 for children under 18, students and senior citizens. Adult admission is $4, and UMaine students are admitted free with an ID. For a current schedule of showings, call 581-1341. The small, domed Observatory building south of Hauck Auditorium houses the University's Clark refractor telescope. Nights of operation are posted by the Observatory entrance and the public is invited.
