The Greenhouse staff maintains a permanent teaching collection of over 200 species of tropical and desert plant species from throughout the world, including a bearing banana plant and an extensive collection of cacti and succulents. The facility also produces herbaceous plants utilized in designed gardens surrounding the Greenhouses. Biological research is conducted on traditional Maine crops such as blueberries, potatoes and field beans. The Greenhouses are open to the public without charge from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
