Casco Bay Boat Cruise and Peaks Island Lobster Bake
The
Monday, July 13, 2009, evening social event will be a scenic cruise on Casco Bay,
followed by a lobster bake on Peaks Island. The dress for this event
is casual. The cruise, provided by
Casco Bay Lines, will be aboard the Island Romance. Once aboard the
boat, guests will have time to mingle with other conference
participants. We will enjoy drinks from a cash bar while we cruise
through the deepest natural harbor on the Atlantic Coast. We will
cruise past lighthouses, forts, and 19th century summer colonies.
The boat will arrive at Peaks Island around 7:00 p.m.
Once
known as the Coney Island of Maine, and later an important WWII
outpost, Peaks Island today is a neighborhood within the city of
Portland, Maine. The site for the bake is Greenwood Gardens, a
former turn-of-the-century summer playhouse that has been converted
into a charming, rustic event facility owned and operated by the
Peaks Island Lions Club. Here you'll enjoy a classic Down East feast
of luscious lobster with all the trimmings: steamed clams, drawn
butter, clam broth, corn on the cob, coleslaw, boiled potatoes,
rolls, coffee, tea, punch, and fresh Maine blueberry cake. For those
who prefer, steak, chicken, vegetarian, and children's meals are
also available.
After dinner, we will cruise Portland
Bay returning to the dock around 9:45 p.m. From here, feel free to
return to the hotel, enjoy the Portland waterfront, or check out the
Old Port nightlife.
