Tours

  • Portland Discovery Land & Sea Tours is a combined business that offers boat and trolley tours of the Portland area. Boat tours are offered during the day for either a guided tour of the lighthouses or a trip to Eagle Island. A sunset cruise of the bay is also available. The trolley tour is a 90-minute narrated trip around Portland to view some of the historic buildings. Prices range from $18 to $30 for adults and $12 to $20 for children. Check the web site for booking options.

  • Downeast Duck Tours offers a 65-minute narrated trip through the Old Port, providing a fun and interesting look into Portland's history. The tour passes through the Old Port's best-known areas and then dives into Casco Bay for a boat tour past islands and marine life. Suitable for all ages. Prices range from $24 for adults, $17 for children 6-12, and $5 for children 5 and under. Check the web site for booking options.

Museums and Theaters

  • Children's Museum and Theater of Maine is located in the arts district of Portland, not far from the Holiday Inn. The Children's Museum is an interactive wonderland where parents and children can have fun and express themselves at the same time. Admission is $8 per person; children under 1 are free. Check the web site for more information.

  • Portland Stage Company, founded in the 1970s, has been providing the Maine community with productions by actors found both locally and in New York. It is Maine's largest fully professional, non-profit theater and offers a range of shows throughout the year. Prices are $36 for adults and $18 for students. Check the web site for more information.

  • Merrill Auditorium is Portland's premier performing arts facility, offering a wide range of shows and concerts. Tickets for shows can be purchased through their web site.

  • The Wadsworth-Longfellow House, Maine's first house museum, has been opened to the public since 2002. The home has been kept in its original state since the last members of the family lived there, and almost all of the artifacts are original to the home. Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for students, and $3 for children. Check the web site for more information.

  • Victoria Mansion is one of the best examples of Pre-Civil War era residential design in the United States. Guided tours last 45 minutes and begin at quarter after and quarter to the hour. Reservations are not required for groups of less than 10. Cost is $13.50 for adults and $3 for children.

  • Portland Museum of Art is Maine's largest and oldest museum. It houses more than 17,000 objects that showcase three centuries of art and architecture. The exhibit featured at the time of the conference is Call of the Coast: Art Colonies of New England. The exhibit will feature 90 works focusing on the theme of coastal communities. Admission is $10 for adults and $4 for children 6-17. Check the web site for more information.

  • Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum. Take a trip around Portland's waterfront in an antique railcar pulled by steam and diesel locomotives. Trains run daily on the hour from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $6 for children 3-12. Children 2 and under ride free. Tickets for train rides provide free admission to the museum.

Golf Courses

  • Sable Oaks. You will feel you're in a private club setting when you visit Sable Oaks Golf Club, eighteen holes of championship golf on a prominent point in South Portland. Yet the Portland International Jetport, Maine Mall, and Maine Turnpike are just minutes away. You'll be treated to some challenging but enjoyable golf, surrounded by woods and ponds, with soft fairways and gently rolling, manicured greens.
  • Riverside Municipal Golf Course has earned the reputation as a player-friendly course, yet is one of southern Maine's more challenging layouts. Rolling hills and a traditional beauty give the Riverside golfer a feeling of spaciousness and relaxation. The challenges are subtle: sand, bogs, trees, and more.
