Parenting
Relatives Mental Health & Substance Abuse Project
A state-wide planning and service project
focusing on the special significance of mental health
disorders and substance abuse for Maine's rural
families and the negative impact such conditions
can have on older adults who have assumed later
life parenting responsibilities. Dr. Lenard Kaye,
Professor of Social Work and Director of UMCoA,
has overall administrative and supervisory responsibility
for the project and Jennifer Crittenden, Research
Associate at UMCoA, serves as the Program Coordinator.
This Generations United funded project has been
renewed yearly since 2002 with a new aspect of kinship
care being explored with each round of funding.
