Sandra Sue Butler is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Work and currently the Resident Scholar at the UMCoA. She received her Ph.D. in social welfare from the University of Washington in 1991, her MSW from Washington University in 1985, and her BA from Carleton College in 1979. In 2001, she was selected as one of ten national Hartford Geriatric Social Work Faculty Scholars, and is currently involved in a study of the Senior Companion Program as a part of the Hartford program. Other areas of research interest include caregiving, aging issues among sexual minorities, health care and service provision for elders in rural areas, and the effects of poverty across the life span. She is the lead professor in the social welfare and services sequence at the School of Social Work.
