Nancy Forster-Holt is an IPhD candidate in Financial and Economic Gerontology, with special focus on the retirement challenges which face small business owners.
Originally from Albany, NY, she earned a BS in Labor Economics, with a minor in accounting, from Cornell University, where she also played lacrosse. She went to work as a tax accountant and auditor with Ernst & Young in NYC and then in Sacramento, CA. She earned an MBA from the University of Maine-Orono, and, concurrently under the McGillicuddy Small Business Fellowship, worked as an SBA small business counselor for Eastern Maine Development Corp. Upon graduation from UMaine, she spent 13 years as Executive VP of Maine Savings Federal Credit Union, and earned two national CFO Best Practices awards.
Presently, she is the proud co-owner of Shaw & Tenney in Orono (www.shawandtenney.com), along with pursuing IPhD studies. She is also adjunct professor in the University of Maine-Orono's College of Business, teaching senior electives: Small Business Accounting, Tax and Finance, and Issues and Cases in Small Business Management. She is a Registered Financial Gerontologist, through the American Institute of Financial Gerontologists, and is a Certified Management Accountant in good standing. She was recently selected to serve on the Small Business Regulatory Affairs Committe of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). The IMA proudly serves and represents 60,000 CMAs worldwide.
A runner, photographer, and Hockey Mom, Nancy lives in Orono with her husband/business partner/great guy, Steve, and their two young sons; their daughter recently graduated from UMaine, and now lives in Denver.
