Maine Plants

"Maine Plant" means the garden plant originated from our beloved Maine. It could be a garden plant discovered in the wild or cultivated areas from Maine (natural selections). It could be a garden plant derived from breeding, hybridization, tissue culture, and gene transformation (artificial selection). With area as large as five other New England States combined, plus plant lovers, plant breeders, gardeners, and horticultural professionals, Maine has the greatest potential of new garden plants. Under the support of Department of Plant, Soil, and Environmental Sciences at the University of Maine and Maine Landscape and Nursery Association (MeLNA), Dr. John Smagula and Dr. Donglin Zhang in Landscape Horticulture Program have launched the project, "New Garden Plant Production for Maine." Please join us and enhance the popularity of Maine Plants. We believe that better garden plants (especially these from our greater Maine) will make our living conditions and life better.

"There are no happier folk than plant lovers and none more generous than those who garden." ‘Chinese’ E. H. Wilson
