Locations of the principal laboratory facilities used by researchers of the School of Marine Sciences. Two faculty members are assigned to the Gulf of Maine Research Instititute (GMRI) in Portland, but do some of their teaching at the Darling Marine Center (DMC) and UMaine. Several faculty members are assigned to the Darling Marine Center (DMC) and do their teaching both there and at UMaine. The DMC is also a superbly equipped, cold-water shellfish aquaculture facility in the heart of Maine's bivalve aquaculture (oysters and mussels) region. SMS researchers do finfish and multitrophic aquaculture research at the Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research.
