Description

Of all the risk factors promoting coronary artery disease, a high serum low density lipoprotein-cholesterol level is the most important. My laboratory is investigating the critical signaling cascades regulating transcription of genes involved in cholesterol homeostasis, i.e., human LDL receptor and squalene synthase, in the human hepatic and nonhepatic cell types. This goal is achieved by blending biochemical, genetic, immunological, and molecular biology approaches into a functional approach to investigate the regulatory mechanisms at the molecular level.
