Research interests

My current research falls into two general categories:

1) Trace Metal Biogeochemistry: Trace metals play imortant roles in a number of oceanographic processes. I am interested in the factors that contribute to trace metal sources, sinks, and chemical transformations in open ocean regimes.

2) Analytical Method/Sensor Design: To strengthen our understanding of envriornmental processes, it is necessary to have sound analytical methods for measurands of interest. I am interested in applying cutting-edge nanotechnology to environmental sensor research. Our multi-disciplinary research team is currently working on novel techniques for situ measurements in the ocean. The ultimate goal of this work is to develop a suite of reliable chemical sensors that can be depoloyed on autonomous research platforms and make continuous measurements.
