I am investigating the role of injury in sediment modification in a common marine worm, Clymenella torquata. My research focuses on how nutritional availability and the frequency of injury modify animal behavior. These behavioral changes can have important effects on other organisms and the physical habitat.
This research provides a new perspective on the role of injury in the ecology of marine sedimentary habitats by investigating the links between nutrient supply, regeneration rate, and behavioral changes. These data will be used to improve computer models of sediment mixing by better defining how animal activities are modified by injury.
Broader Impacts: I have also worked with COSEE-OS to make my research topics more accessible to educators and students across the nation using online concept mapping software, and as a COSEE-OS webinar presenter and blogger.
