Overview

I am an Assistant Professor in the the School of Marine Sciences and a Cooperating Professor in the Department of Anthropology and the School of Policy and International Affairs at the University of Maine. I'm also a faculty member in the Sustainability Solutions Initiative and the Maine Tidal Power Initiative.

Research:

My interdisciplinary research examines the human dimensions of marine fisheries and coastal communities, focusing on the science and policy processes in the Northeast U.S. I am interested in understanding (1) the role of participation and different forms of expertise in science and management, and (2) social and ecological change in coastal communities. For more details, please see my Research page.

Teaching:

I currently teach an undergraduate course in marine policy and fisheries management and a graduate seminar in marine policy. In addition, I advise graduate students in the School of Marine Sciences Marine Policy and Dual Marine Policy-Marine Biology degree programs.
