Overview

I am an Assistant Professor in the the School of Marine Sciences and a Cooperating Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Maine. I'm also a faculty member in the Sustainability Solutions Initiative.

Research:

My interdisciplinary research examines the human dimensions of marine fisheries and coastal communities, focusing on the science and policy processes in the Northeast U.S. I am interested in (1) the role of participation and different forms of expertise in science and management, and (2) the interactions between policy-making and coastal communities, including the social and economic impacts of policy-making on fishing communities and the potential role of stakeholders in policy-making. For more details, please see my Research page.

Teaching:

I currently teach an undergraduate course in marine policy and fisheries management and a graduate seminar in marine policy. In addition, I advise graduate students in the School of Marine Sciences Marine Policy and Dual Marine Policy-Marine Biology degree programs.
