Marine Molecular Genetics
Molecular genetic analysis is revolutionizing understanding of the evolution of life on earth and its likely origin in hydrothermal marine settings, as well as of the genetic structure and functioning of genes within individuals. Molecular genetic tools are giving unprecedented resolution of population structure in marine populations. SMS and its affiliates house an unusual concentration of researchers who use molecular genetic tools to answer questions about biological processes in the sea.
