LL Bean / Lee Surace Colloquium Series: Dr. Robert A. Strong
"Optimal Stock Price Ranges: Evidence from Benford's Law"
Dr. Strong's presentation at USM's Glickman Library presented the results of his research, showing that firms announce stock splits with statistical regularity in order to induce stock prices to fall within certain price ranges. To the extent that stock splits predict abnormal returns, Professor Strong's research might indicate capital market mispricing.

- Professor Bob Strong was honored for 25 years at the University
- Professor Carol Gilmore was reappointed to the Maine Labor Relations Board by Governor Baldacci
- Dr. Ivan Manev has been appointed the new associate Dean for the College of Business, Public Policy & Health. Dr. Gloria Vollmers will return to teaching after 5 years of service as associate dean and a much deserved sabbatical.
- Dr. Nory Jones was appointed interim Director of the Graduate Program
- Wendy Coons, lecturer in Accounting, was awarded the 2008 Excellence in Teaching Award
