Projects in this area focus on helping
disconnected young adults in the Bangor
region develop pathways to work, higher education, and a positive
future.
Community Dialogues
COPC will
host a series of Community Dialogues to engage disconnected young adults, downtown
Bangor merchants, and residents in a series of facilitated conversations about
how to overcome what many describe as an atmosphere of “non-inclusion."
These
dialogues are intended to spur greater understanding and appreciation
among all participants. The
intent is to identify projects and actions that can be undertaken
together to create and/or strengthen inclusive, inviting public spaces
downtown.

New Media & Life
Planning
The
CYBER Project
(Connecting Youth to Bangor and Electronic
Resources) provides experiential education programs for youth in
downtown Bangor.
Workshops designed and conducted by the University of Maine New Media
Department and the Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies
will train participants in the skills of interactive new media while
simultaneously engaging them in a person-centered life planning and
work-skills development curricula. By
producing new media content, participants will be challenged to
contribute to the larger community. The
overall goal is to help disconnected young adults reconnect to either
formal education or work-related training, and to develop the aspiration and
planning needed to pursue higher education.
