Financial
Literacy Training
Through
a partnership among the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center, the
University of Maine Department of Communication and Journalism, and Bangor Savings Bank,
a two-course sequence and internship on financial literacy will provide
students with an understanding of the economic and social challenges
facing working poor families. Coursework
will instruct students on how to prepare materials that explain
financial literacy and how financial literacy can assist families in
achieving economic stability. In
cooperation with Bangor Savings Bank, students will develop and
implement a campaign to promote financial literacy in the Bangor
area. This interdisciplinary
work will serve as a prototype of integrated learning that can be
applied to other interested departments on campus.
