Research Areas - Civic Values and Institutions Best Practices Research on Change in the Nonprofit Sector April, 1997 Voluntary associations are organized to meet human needs and contribute greatly to the common good of society. These services evolved to provide Americans with comprehensive services, to fill the gap between a market-driven private sector and government services. In this presentation, The Margaret Chase Smith Center strives to undertake research into the "best practices" in a more systematic approach than is generally seen in addressing public issues in the United States. While the nonprofit sector has built a strong foundation, the MCSC believes change is constant, and this is the core belief of the research undertaken by the Change Management Project partnership. This presentation of the Best Practices Research was produced for the April 7, 1997 conference, Chaos and Courage: Nonprofits in Transition, by the Maine Community Foundation, Maine Development Foundation, Maine Association of Nonprofits, Maine Humanities Council, and the Margaret Chase Smith Center for Public Policy.
