Environmental Marketing of Green Vehicles:  Exploring Effective Design and Performance, August 2003 - August 2005
This research project seeks to implement and study the effects of an eco-labeling and marketing program for vehicles sold in Maine.

MtBE in Groundwater: The Maine Experiment, March 2002 - February 2004
MtBE is a gasoline additive that has contaminated groundwater nationwide. This research will:

  1. Examine the spatial distribution and persistence of MtBE on the town and statewide scales

  2. Evaluate the costs of using and remediating MtBE to lower levels

  3. Evaluate the economic benefit in reduced remediation costs by switching to low, or no-MtBE fuels.

Measuring the Economic Damages from  Oil Spills in Maine's Marine Economy, 2003 - 2005
Beginning in 2003, The Margaret Chase Smith Center for Public Policy will begin a two year research project that will enhance Maine's ability to evaluate the full economic impact of both small and large oil spills on recreation and tourism.
