ABOUT COPC

In 1994, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of University Partnerships launched the Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC) program to foster and support collaborations between institutions of higher education and communities.

COPC is HUD’s primary vehicle for engaging colleges and universities in:

  • Empowering local communities

  • Improving local communities

  • Improving the quality of education and scholarship

  • Helping HUD fulfill its mission

  • Improving relations between campus and community

The University of Maine-Bangor Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC) was formally established in 2006. It is the direct result of extensive planning and partnership building activities between faculty and staff at the University and community residents.  Our COPC program focuses attention on three key areas: Community Inclusion, Youth Empowerment, and Affordable Housing.
