Salary & Benefits

Base Pay Structure:

  • $4,080.00 for the12 week program

  • $680.00 biweekly (80 hours)

  • $340.00 weekly (40 hours)

  • $8.50 per hour

Special Benefit: 

Interns may choose to participate in the State's group health insurance and dental program.  The earliest possible effective date is July 1.  The State will pay the full cost of the intern's health and dental premiums and, for interns who have dependents, 60% of the cost of the intern's dependent health insurance package.  Dental insurance for dependents is available at the intern's expense.

Special Arrangements: 

To the extent scheduling and work requirements allow, the employing department will allow interns to work extra hours to make up for money lost as the result of an absence or an unpaid holiday.  However, the intern's total earnings must not exceed the $4,080.00 position allotment.  Lost time may be made up by working on the weekend, by working extra hours during the week or, if absolutely necessary, by working beyond the end date of August 8, 2008.  

An intern must be compensated at the premium overtime rate for actual hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week. (Unlike bargaining unit employees, interns are not eligible for overtime for work over 8 hours per day.)

Deductions:

  • Contribution for mandatory membership in the Maine State Retirement System - 7.65% of gross pay

  • Medicare portion of Social Security - 1.45% of gross pay.

  • State and Federal Taxes, according to Withholding Allowance Certificate.

Temporary Unclassified Status: 

Interns are not eligible for sick leave, vacation pay, holiday pay, or group life insurance.
