Awards: Four awards are given in each category.
- First place winners receive a plaque for permanent display at their schools; top four winners receive certificates.
- General Excellence: All winners receive plaques; first place winner takes home the James Russell Wiggins Outstanding Newspaper trophy for the year. The Ellsworth American provides the traveling trophy, named in honor of its former editor and publisher.
How to enter:
- Copy and fully complete 2008 Student Newspaper Contest Entry and attach one form to each entry
- Send tear sheets of pages containing articles or photos
- Send the entire paper for Layout/Design category.
- For General Excellence category, submit three copies of two editions
- Student writers publishing as part of a local or area newspaper may enter writing categories only; not Layout and Design, General Excellence or New Entrant.
- There is no category for literary journals or creative writing publications
- Maximum of one entry per category, per school.
- Entries must have been published between March 31, 2007 and March 30, 2008.
- Student writers publishing as part of a local or area newspaper may enter writing categories only; not Layout and Design, General Excellence or Photography.
- There is no category for literary journals or creative writing publications.
