| For the Mechanical Laboratory III portion of our project, we set up a test to measure the static thrust of the HPS. This was done by making a custom dyno to fit on the side of the pool at the Wallace Pool on campus. We built the dyno to also fit the same strain gage and swing arm setup as the drag test. The back of the sub was attached to a rope which was attached to the swong arm so the sub would be stationary when operated. This allowed us to get static thrust measurements for each operator using a data aquisition system. The strain gages were hooked up to the P-3500 strain indicator which was hooked up the Measurements Group USB-1208FS DAQ. The DAQ was connected to a laptop running TracerDAQ to record the data. Click the links below to view the results for each operator as well as some movies of the sub in action. |
