| The
Human Powered Submarine is in it's fourth year of development here at
the University of Maine and this year we are finally going to
competition in San Diego, California. We have worked all year with the
two other HPS teams to get the sub ready for competition. The objective
for the dynamometer team in Design III was to find a way to measure the
drag, lift, and thrust of the submarine in the water. Our first
semester was dedicated to fabricating and testing a dynamometer that
would measure the drag of water on the sub. We built the dyno and took
the sub to Pushaw Lake in Old Town. Our second semester in Design
IV is dedicated to getting the sub ready for competition. Our
Mechanical Laboratory III goal is to build a new dynamometer that will
measure the static thrust of the sub. After extensive pool tests we are
confident that we will have data on thrust, drag, and lift that future
teams can design from. On this website you will find pictures and
results from our tests, as well as information about each team member.
From all of us on the HPS dynamometer team, we thank you for visiting
our website. |
