Yamaha Phazer

Engine Controls

Background:

The object of the Phazer ECU teams is to put together a complete standalone engine control unit for the Yamaha Phazer.  This is unlike the piggyback approach that is used with the Arctic Cat in that the entire system will be replaced with a piggyback system that allows the engine tuning to be optimized for the catalytic converter and possibly more advanced engine controls.  It is anticipated that a system such as the MegaSquirt  other open architecture system will be used.  Expensive racing system with proprietary hardware will not be conceded since they will ruin the cost sheet for the competition.  The team will be expected to develop all of the skills necessary for getting the system up and running.  This will probably include C programming as well as assembling the necessary hardware.  This is not a project that can fail without impacting the entire class this year and next.  It also is an opportunity to use equipment and a snowmobile that will set the team on the right path in the next five years.

It is critical that the team is aggressive in preparing for the arrival of the race sled, so a demo system must be built up and ready to go prior to arrival of the actual snowmobile so that the skills required for the switch (and the programming skills are completed) prior to arrival of the new sled.
