Objectives
The objective of the 2006-2007 Zero Pollution Lawnmower Team is to take
Last year's lawnmower and completely take it off the
power grid.
Last year's team created a zero-point source polluting lawnmower, but
it still requires
power from a power plant to charge the batteries.
The
main goal of this year's project is to build a Solar charging Station
for the lawnmower. This
Recharging Station has to
be shippable via UPS ground and be easy
enough to assemble, so that the average homeowner can
put it togethor
without problems. In
order to ship UPS ground, the total package must weigh under 150
pounds and have a combined length and width of under 165 inches.
Our design team has decided that the easiest
method of assembly is to have a one piece
assembly. That is
why we
have decided to use pop-up camper
style lift arms and a hand
crank. This mechanism will allow
the
shed to be shipped complete in one box, therefore
eliminating
complicated assembly. Simply open the box, set the shed on level
ground with the solar panels
facing South, lift the panels to the set angle and turn the crank.
