The 2008-2009 Human Powered Submarine (HPS) team is comprised of fourteen college seniors from the University of Maine’s Mechanical Engineering Department. The HPS project is an important developmental step for the students by solidifying the basic engineering principals gathered in the classroom and applying them to a real life project. Vital interpersonal skills are also gained through a collaborative team environment.

The focus of the team is to develop a manually driven submarine and to later race it against other HPS teams at the 10^th annual International Submarine Races in Bethesda Maryland in late June of 2009. Check on our progress over the next six months, as we will be posting photos and videos of our design, construction, and testing of the new human powered submarine!
