Analysis and Testing of Laser Welded Steel Sandwich Panels

Serdar Yorulmaz
Department of Mechanical Engineering
University of Maine, Orono, ME 04469

Steel sandwich panel construction has been recognized as a highly regarded concept for structural design due to its high strength, light weight, reduced surface distortion, rapid construction practices, greater flexibility for designers to create elegant curves and ease of material transportation. The preliminary research is performed as a verification study on the topic. Finite element and conventional numerical analysis techniques are used to analyze the sandwich panel constructions with continuous and non-continuous core configurations. The seminar will include the sandwich panel connection test set up along with visualization and measurement techniques using photogrammetry.
