Class Bell

Text Only Version
Chet Rock, Associate Dean, College of Engineering:

"The bell ran every morning for class. It was called the class bell, signifying it was time for classes. The students did not enjoy being woken up by the bell if they were trying to sleep in, so there were a number of pranks where they got into the tower and tried to ring the bell when it wasn't supposed to be rung and tried to not make it ring when it was supposed to ring. In 1943 it dissapeared and it turned out it was put on the library in '51. We'll have it on display for reunion weekend and a lot of the classes coming back will have been here on campus when the bell was ringing so that's pretty exciting I think for them."
