" In Blake James, we have a leader who can guide the UMaine athletic department as we continue to strive for excellence in the classroom and in competition. Blake also has the vision and the experience to help us move forward as we set new and
more lofty goals and to achieve at an even higher level. Blake brings a personal integrity, a sincere appreciation for the proper role of athletics in the higher education environment, a sincere love for UMaine and a demonstrated track record of
success on the job. Would you please join me in congratulating UMaine's new director of athletics, Blake James."
Blake James, UMaine Athletic Director:
" I think the number one priority that I have is to continue to have that student-athlete focused vision. The NCAA has dedicated this year as the year of the student-athlete, and I believe that here at Maine, that every year is the year of the
student-athlete. I think its important for us to continue to provide the resources they need to achieve academic and athletic excellence and thats something that I will continue to push- for us to maintain that level of excellence that we've
established. As I've said before, our number one goal is to graduate our student-athletes. I can think of nothing more important than to provide our young men and women with that opportunity that they'll need at some point in life. No matter what
they can do athletically, a degree is something that will be with them as long as they are alive and will be a part of their future and that should always be our number one goal and will be our number one goal while I'm athletic director."
