2007-2008 SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT:

ANTI-TIP ANTI-ROLLBACK WHEELCHAIRS

 

 

 

Senior Design Goal:

Currently their is a lack of inexpensive anti-rollback devices for standard wheelchairs, as well as wheelie bars that the wheelchair user is able to engage/disengage on his or her own.  Some hills are too steep, or too long to navigate without resting, and so our class decided to improve on the wheelchair to allow someone to rest their hands without having to let the wheels go to engage the brakes.  In order to really put our inventions to the test we would require wheelie bars for steep hills, and thought it would also be appropriate to engineer an easy to engage wheelie bar system, as we were hearing complaints that stationary wheelie bars would sometimes get caught up on obstacles.  Our group is one of four in our senior design class aimed at engineering solutions to the problem, and this website is dedicated to our teams new wheelchair improvements.
