Other areas of research are often pursued that do not fit directly with major regions under current investigation. They are usually either tangential prospects from established projects or are aquired by active interest of research members. In either case, projects are artfuly handled by the adaptive nature of both the MISL facilities and the diversified body of research members.
Material Characterization
To augment the development of Micro Instrumentation, several program exist to study and develop materials and microfabrication processes critical to microfabrication.
Aerospace Applications
Description
Porous Silicon
Anodization of silicon in aqueous HF solutions generates a curious labyrinth of pores which penetrate deep within the bulk of the silicon.
Micro Thruster
As NASA decreases the size of spacecraft, the need for small attitude control thrusters arise. One possible design is that of a vaporizing liquid microthruster (VLM).
