Common Ground IV: A View from the Inside: Learning to Thrive in the Age of Standards (in HTML format - 74 k) |
The Maine Education Leadership Consortium (MELC) has worked for ten years to understand more fully the factors that influence teachers to remain in education. In 1993, the Consortium convened a select seminar of 32 outstanding new teachers to learn about their experiences in their first two years of teaching. Charlotte Herbold wrote a report entitled “A View from the Inside: New Teachers on Teaching in Maine.” In 1997, the Consortium held another seminar involving 34 additional outstanding new teachers and produced a similar report. "A View From the Inside: Continuing the Conversation About Teaching in Maine" is the latest report, dating from 2004.

The Maine Education Leadership Consortium announces the availability of full $2,300 scholarships to support selected Maine public school teachers wishing to participate in the National Board Certification process during the coming year. Funds will be available through the generosity of several MELC member organizations and state appropriated funds, and are matched by subsidy from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. More information is available here in the press release.
The Subsidy Agreement and Subsidy Application Form are available in two formats: as Microsoft Word files and as printable web pages. Choose the Word format if you would like to download the pages to your computer and open them in Microsoft Word. Right-mouse-click (control-mouse-click on a Macintosh) to save to disk. Choose the web page format if you prefer to print the pages and complete them on a typewriter or by hand.
