Welcome to Maine Peace Action Committee

“Nonviolence seeks to defeat injustice, not people. Nonviolence recognizes that people who choose actions that create injustices are also victims, and not evil people. The nonviolent resister seeks to defeat injustices, not people.”

~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Welcome to the Maine Peace Action Committee Website!

The Maine Peace Action Committee is an organization of University of Maine students, faculty, and community members concerned with the many injustices we face as a society. We seek to challenge these  injustices and the institutions that perpetuate them through creative, nonviolent resistance, as well as through constructive community- building and education. Through this strategy, we hope to foster a UMaine community based firmly upon the values of peace, nonviolence, cooperation, and egalitarianism. For more detailed information about our organization, please visit our About MPAC page.

We hold our weekly meetings every Tuesday at 4 pm during the Academic year in the Virtue Room of the Maples Building on campus. We also organize speakers, demonstrations, films, plays, workshops and other events of peace education, so there are many ways in which to get involved, even if you cannot come to the weekly meetings. If you would like more information please contact Eric Collins, Shannon Brenner or Douglas Allen on FirstClass (i.e. douglas.allen@umit.maine.edu)
